Astraea National Lesbian Action Foundation
Astraea provides economic and social support to projects that empower the lives of lesbians. They support programs and policies that actively work to eliminate those forms of oppression based on race, age, sex, economic exploitation, physical and mental ability, anti-semitism and all other factors that affect lesbians and gay men in the United States and internationally. Boston Women's Fund
The Boston Women's Fund supports community-based organizations run by women and girls in the Greater Boston area. They work with low-income women, women of color, lesbians, women with disabilities, older women, and girls who are working to create a society based on racial, social and economic justice. BWF raises money from a broad base of donors across economic backgrounds to provide grants and develop programs that strengthen the grassroots initiatives and leadership of women and girls. Common Counsel Foundation
A public charity which offers strategic philanthropic advisory services to family foundations and individual donors. Their current members are committed to funding economic, environmental and social justice initiatives. They also administer a small grants program for community organizations and host two yearly retreats: one for activists and one for writers addressing strategies for restructuring the economy and its relationship to people and nature. Council on Foundations
Provides substantial support services nationally for different sectors of philanthropy, including family foundations, community foundations, regional associations of grant makers and philanthropic affinity groups. Funding Exchange
A national network of alternative foundations committed to funding progressive grassroots organizing locally and nationally. Community activists have a central role in the grant-making process, and contributions come from a broad spectrum of individual donors. FEX holds educational programs for people with inherited wealth, as do many of its member funds, and also offers donor-advised grant-making services. Global Fund for Women
A grant making institution supporting women's groups internationally, especially female human rights, women's access to media and communications and economic autonomy for women. The Global Fund provides assistance to groups overseas that wish to establish philanthropic organizations designed to benefit women. The Global Fund offers a funding circle for women donors to pool money and give it away together, learning about a common issue. National Black United Funds
A non-profit organization established in 1968 whose mission is to create support and sustain African-American social, economic, cultural, educational institutions through philanthropy. NBUF participates in community development by helping local leaders organizing and structure the vehicles for assessing new dollars and expanding opportunities for giving. There are 20 affiliates, 12 local federations and a National Black United Federation of Charities with 48 affiliates. National Network of Grantmakers
A network of staff and board members of progressive philanthropic organizations along with individual donors to social change. NNG has a newsletter and holds an annual 3-day conference. NNG publishes a membership directory and grantmaker evaluation guide. NNG is developing a national database of social change projects that will be available to grant makers sorted by geography or issue area. NNG continually pursues how organized philanthropy can be more responsive to the needs of grant seekers. It is also the home of the Donor Organizer's Network (DON), a working group that seeks to develop new tools and programs for progressive donors. The Shefa Fund

Third Wave Foundation
A non-profit activist philanthropic organization that works with young women between the ages of 15 and 30. It is the first and only foundation in the country to dedicate all of its resources to young women, providing direct service funding in the areas of reproductive rights, microenterprise, and education. It also funds general organizing and activist projects by and for young women. Third Wave Foundation also mounts public education campaigns, offers leadership training workshops, facilitates information-sharing, and organizes an annual conference on wealth and philanthropy for men and women under thirty-five. Tides Foundation
