Some frequently asked questions
How do you define wealthy?
This is self-defined by people who participate in our programs. The amount of wealth people have access to - or expect to have access to in the future - varies greatly. This wealth comes from many sources including inheritances and earnings. Some people who are involved have access to philanthropic resources (for example, as board members of family foundations) but do not have access to personal wealth. Generally, everyone involved feels like they have or will have access to more resources than they need. Another way to define wealthy is those US residents who have or come from families that have over $158,600 in annual household incomeputting them in the wealthiest 5% of people in the country.
How do you define young?
Resource Generation constituents are primarily between the ages of 18 and 35. Some of our constituents are a little older, and some are a little younger.
How is Resource Generation's work a part of progressive social change?
We are committed to working towards more equitable resource distribution because we believe that the unjust distribution of resources is a root cause of many social, environmental and economic problems. By building a network of young people with wealth who are aligning their resources with their values, we strive to strengthen movements for progressive social change.
Do you have staff in each of the program cities?
Resource Generations staff is based in New York, New York. With the support of volunteers, organizational partners and skilled facilitators, we are able to carry out our programs in cities across the country.
Does Resource Generation give grants?
Resource Generation is not a foundation and does not give any grants. While we work with young people with wealth, many of whom are active donors, we are not a funding organization.

What does "confidential" or "safe" space mean?
Many of our programs are designed to be a confidential space for young people with wealth to explore their relationship to money, class and privilege. This means:
- Attendance is confidential
- There is no fundraising or solicitation
- All participants are young people with wealth or partners of young people with wealth. This creates a space that allows those attending to be open about their experiences with people who share similar experiences.
- We are committed to creating an atmosphere of respect and compassion no matter how challenging the issues we discuss.
- Resource Generation does not share its mailing list.
